Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE)

We strive to engage with our patients and listen to their concerns and suggestions when designing and conducting research. We are growing our dedicated vascular PPIE group and are introducing a "Research Buddy" scheme with patients not just being consulted on a particular research project, but engaging in its delivery for the entire duration of the study.

Collaborative work

Birmingham Vascular Centre works with other Vascular Units and Institutions around the UK. Recently we launched a regional collaboration that aims to increase involvement of staff and patients in research delivery - The West Midlands Vascular Research and Innovation Consortium (VARICS) bringing together large vascular units in the region:

  • University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust

  • Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust

  • The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust

  • University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust

  • University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust

  • Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
