Birmingham Vascular Centre aims to deliver high quality research building on its existing research programme in with University of Birmingham and our colleagues in the local community and around the region.
We deliver pre-clinical and clinical projects focusing on:

Clinical Trials
The Birmingham Vascular Centre runs large clinical studies including the internationally renowned Bypass versus Angioplasty in Severe Ischaemia of the Leg Trial (BASIL Trial).

Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE)
We strive to engage with our patients and listen to their concerns and suggestions when designing and conducting research. We are growing our dedicated vascular PPIE group and are introducing a "Research Buddy" scheme with patients not just being consulted on a particular research project, but engaging in its delivery for the entire duration of the study.
Collaborative work
Birmingham Vascular Centre works with other Vascular Units and Institutions around the UK. Recently we launched a regional collaboration that aims to increase involvement of staff and patients in research delivery - The West Midlands Vascular Research and Innovation Consortium (VARICS) bringing together large vascular units in the region:
